David Geffen Hall Renovation Project
“The hall’s public spaces are being revamped with that in mind. The redesign calls for moving the box office and doubling the size of the lobby; adding a casual bistro and more bars and restrooms; building a Lincoln Center welcome space; and transforming the corner of the building at the busy intersection of 65th Street and Broadway — currently office space hidden behind curtains — into a public-facing “Sidewalk Studio” for classes, lectures and small performances. The building’s 65th Street façade is intended to become a large-scale canvas for site-specific artworks.”

“The new David Geffen Hall building, with its greater audience intimacy, flexible acoustics, and variable stage configurations, will enable us to diversify our programming presentations to reflect our 21st-century musical world. This project marks an exciting new chapter in New York’s musical and artistic life, one that will brightly illuminate the future and the sublime creations from the past.”
Jane Moss, Former Ehrenkranz Artistic Director, Lincoln Center
This project started to truly gain traction in 2017 when we started a feasibility study with many of the consultants that helped complete the project. We started the feasibility rooted in the reality of budget, time, and limiting closure of the Hall. We worked with the staff and leadership to see what could be created within those parameters. What is you see today in David Geffen Hall, in basic space design and space use, is based on a great plan created years ago.
